Introduction

Welcome to the site of Richard Dunn. This is my personal site which also provides information about the services I offer in computer support. I have worked in the computers for over 20 years from providing help desk support and management, designing and delivering training packages and presentations, running a busy computer sales and repair business through to my latest interests in digital photography and video.

For years there was a risks section on the website that I direct point people to in order that the problems with PC security, your data, and viruses could be covered. The Internet and connected computers are transforming our lives and businesses. As we put more time into our efforts to master and apply computers there are others who choose to disrupt and cause chaos amongst computer users . Stop for a moment to think about your computer, is it vital to you, do you backup your data, contact lists, photographs, reports, or do you just let it be? What problems would it create if you lost all of this today? Would you ever get it back? What would it cost?

Well I have had to call it an end for that section of the website. The sheer escalation in virus and security attacks has seen to that. It is now more important than ever and so I have created a website called www.virusnews.co.uk with more information and links. I have also asked various local organisations, media, and councillors to promote the information the site gives. This persistent level of virus attacks could damage the way the Internet is used forever. Don't let your PC, maybe unbeknown to you, be part of these attacks. Go to the site now and check your PCs for Viruses.

Cowboy Hate

I have an open dislike for large chain stores, or dishonest dealers,  who sell empty promises and frustration to the customers. Often adding insult to injury they charge large sums of money for useless support contracts. Look at their contracts and you will find that nothing but the physical hardware is covered. This is the least problematic area of computing. The biggest problems lie in Software, i.e.. Microsoft Windows, it's use and configuration, and all the other issues that make this the 95% that you do need cover on. Yes, they can provide that, but you may find out its NOT FREE and by premium rate (£1/min type) phone numbers.

We charge £35 on a single hour to come out and fix your problems. (i.e.. 35 minutes on a Cowboy World type support line!).  Additional hours get charged at a lower rate of £25 / hour. These rates are for new customers. Customers can negotiate for reduced rates and booking more hours or a permanent arrangement.

Open and honest. Existing customers will provide excellent references on request and potential customers will be put in direct contact with those referees. Hopefully this open style will attract customers that require our skills.

For the last 5 years a section of this website has been devoted to practical measures to reduce the risks associated with using personal computers.  Now I start a bigger level of attack with www.virusnews.co.uk. It is one attack that I know I can never win, but at lease I am trying.

Joy Rainey, the famous motor racing Hillclimb lady has allowed me the honour to do her website. Follow Joy's exploits as she gets ready to complete in the gruelling London to Sydney Marathon 2004. With Joy's history and achievements in motor sport and the columns she writes for The Telegraph motoring sections I thought this would be an excellent place to also have all my photographs and videos of Motor sports. After all, I want the pictures to be viewed, and the videos watched. Joy does a weekly Journal and I am adding a personal motorcycling history section.

The other part of this website is my online photo galleries. They now also include some Digital Video stuff. Most of my recent photos and videos are from the collaboration with Joy Rainey and cover Hillclimbing and the Goodwood Festival of Speed. These are no longer in my galleries but on pages in Joy's website above. All motor racing stuff will go on Joy's site, all other photographs will go into the Photo galleries on this site.

When I was a kid I had photography as a hobby. I managed to afford with my pocket money to take and process about 2 films! I got back into photography in 1998 when I jumped in and bought a 1 Mega pixel digital camera. My hobby is reborn! Several thousand (literally) photos later and I'm getting better.
